Asalamu alaikum, MHB supporters! I want to tell you about an awesome literacy project my sister and I are working on, but before I go into it I just want to thank all of you for following my blog and being so supportive over the years. I started this blog back in 2011 and it’s been a really rewarding and wonderful journey. Thanks so much for sticking with me over the years and to my new followers, thanks for joining us. Jazakhalah Kair.
So, let’s talk about our awesome Islamic curriculum shall we? If your reading this, that means you have obviously learned how to read – but do you remember the very first books you learned to read from? Were they antiquated books, with characters very unlike yourself or your life? Imagine giving your children their very first reading books, full of people who look and act just like them and the diverse friends and family they have all around them. Imagine your children seeing themselves reflected in their very first books – not ones they may read many years down the road, like you and I experienced.
Alhumdulillah, my family, I are making these books right now. Let me tell you a bit about us in case we have not been introduced.
My name is Jamila Alqarnain. I am a homeschooling mom of 8 wonderful children. I have been teaching for 15 years now. A decade ago, my sister and I were teaching our youngest children how to read using the readers that were available to us. Though our children were learning just fine, we wished we had readers that depicted Muslim children like them and that illustrated our own spiritual values. We decided to take on the task of writing a Islamic reading curriculum that Muslim children everywhere could benefit from.
We have worked hard over the years, and even employed our talented children. So far they have illustrated three of our seven readers and are currently working on the last three. Two of our readers have been completed and the others are in various stages of publishing. The complete series will include seven readers, corresponding flashcards, teacher’s guides and workbooks. Everything a parent/teacher will need to give their child/student the foundation they need for reading success!
Our Ummah needs curriculum that will not only stimulate a love for learning, but also help give them a strong Muslim identity and connection with their Lord. That’s exactly what the Islamic Phonics Readers Series (IPRS) has to offer. We intend to not only deliver the tools your child needs for literacy and spiritual growth, but also provide a simplified blueprint that will show you exactly how to get the job done. IPRS will empower parents to give their children the gift of literacy.
Now that you know all about the Islamic Phonics Readers Series I know you must be super excited and anxious to see this awesome product on the market. We are too! And we’re diligently working towards that goal, but in order to make this dream of ours a reality, we need the help of folks like you. The following is a breakdown for what it will take to complete just the readers and flashcards:
As you can see there’s a lot to it but we are making progress. So far we have managed to raise $1,928 on LaunchGood, a crowdfunding platform for Muslim projects. That’s very good as it’s only been 6 days. We have a ways to go and we need your support. Please contribute any amount you can. Every little bit counts.
So please go visit our page (click the pic below), give what you can and be sure to share our Islamic Phonics Readers Series campaign on your social media networks. That helps us get the word out about this fantastic product. Thanks so much for your time! Jazakallah Khair.
